Soudal Soudabond Foam Adhesive Gun Grade – High‑Grab PU Foam Adhesive for Boards & Panels

Soudal Soudabond Foam Adhesive Gun Grade is a high‑performance,
gun‑applied PU foam adhesive designed for fast, clean and powerful bonding of
insulation boards, plasterboard, lightweight construction panels and many other
building materials. It replaces traditional grab adhesives and mortar beds,
saving time, labour and cost on site.

Soudal Soudabond Foam Adhesive Gun Grade is a one‑component,
moisture‑curing polyurethane foam adhesive
packaged in a pressurised aerosol
can for use with a professional foam gun. Specially formulated for bonding
insulation boards, plasterboard and construction panels, it provides a
strong, durable bond with a fraction of the effort required by traditional
mortar or powder adhesives.

Once applied, Soudabond expands slightly to fill minor surface irregularities,
ensuring full contact and a secure bond. It cures to a firm, semi‑flexible foam
that offers excellent adhesive strength, good thermal insulation and
acoustic dampening
. Because it is light, clean and easy to use, installers can
work faster, reduce mess on site and improve productivity on drylining and
insulation projects.

Typical Use Cases

  • Fixing insulation boards (EPS, XPS, PIR, PU and similar) to internal or external walls, where permitted by the system manufacturer.
  • Bonding plasterboard and drylining boards to masonry, blockwork and stud partitions as part of a dot‑and‑dab style installation.
  • Adhering lightweight construction panels such as foam‑backed boards, decorative panels and refurbishment boards.
  • Securing window insulation boards, reveals and soffit liners around openings.
  • General purpose panel adhesive where a fast, PU foam‑based bonding solution is required (non‑structural).

Installation & Application Tips

  • Substrate preparation:
    • Ensure surfaces are sound, clean, dry and free from dust, loose material, oil and grease.
    • Remove any friable or weak layers; repair major unevenness beforehand.
    • Lightly dampening very dry, porous substrates can improve curing (follow manufacturer guidance).
  • Can preparation:
    • Bring the can to room temperature where possible for optimum yield.
    • Shake vigorously (20–30 times) before use and occasionally during application.
    • Attach the can securely to a compatible PU foam gun, following the gun manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Application pattern:
    • Apply continuous beads of adhesive foam around the perimeter of the board and in one or more lines across the centre, as specified by the system designer.
    • Typical bead diameter is modest; avoid over‑application to reduce squeeze‑out and panel movement.
  • Fitting boards and panels:
    • Offer the board to the substrate within the open time specified on the can (usually a few minutes).
    • Press firmly and evenly over the whole surface to ensure full contact and an even adhesive bed.
    • Temporary supports or spacers may be used until the adhesive has developed sufficient strength.
  • Curing & finishing:
    • Initial grab is achieved quickly; full cure is normally reached within 24 hours, depending on temperature and humidity.
    • Excess cured foam can be cut away with a knife. Avoid exposing cured foam to prolonged UV – protect with finishes where necessary.
  • Clean‑up:
    • Remove uncured foam from tools and stray areas immediately with a suitable PU foam cleaner or solvent.
    • Cured foam can only be removed mechanically.

Technical & Performance Overview

Soudal Soudabond Foam Adhesive Gun Grade is designed as a professional
construction adhesive
for non‑structural fixing of boards and panels. It is
manufactured under controlled conditions and is typically tested to relevant EN
and internal Soudal standards
for bond strength and durability (refer to the
latest technical datasheet and Declaration of Performance for full details).

  • Type: One‑component, moisture‑curing PU foam adhesive (gun grade).
  • Application temperature: Typically within a moderate temperature range (see can/technical datasheet for exact limits).
  • Substrates: Concrete, brick, blockwork, plaster, render, untreated timber and many insulation materials (EPS, XPS, PIR/PU, mineral wool boards – always check compatibility).
  • Yield: High yield per can compared with traditional tub or bagged adhesives (exact yield depends on bead size and application pattern).
  • Fire behaviour: PU foam adhesives are combustible; follow system‑specific guidance and do not rely on the product for fire protection.
  • Thermal properties: Closed‑cell foam structure contributes to reduced thermal bridging behind boards and around edges.
  • Storage: Store upright in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Do not expose to temperatures outside those stated by the manufacturer.
  • Safety: Use in well‑ventilated areas, wear gloves and eye protection, and follow the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

Frequently Asked Questions – Soudal Soudabond Foam Adhesive Gun Grade

1. What is the difference between Soudabond Foam Adhesive and standard PU expanding foam?

While both are polyurethane foams, Soudabond Foam Adhesive is specifically
formulated as an adhesive with controlled expansion and high bond strength.
Standard PU expanding foam is typically a gap filler/insulating foam and may
expand more, making it less suitable for precision bonding of boards and panels.
For attaching insulation or plasterboard, using a dedicated foam adhesive like
Soudabond delivers better, more consistent results.

2. Can I use Soudal Soudabond Foam Adhesive Gun Grade for external applications?

Soudabond Foam Adhesive can be used for both internal and certain external
applications
, depending on the board system and the project specification.
External use typically requires:

  • Compatibility with the ETICS or insulation system being installed.
  • Weatherproof finishes such as render, cladding or appropriate coatings.
  • Compliance with local Building Regulations and system manufacturer guidance.

Always check the system designer’s instructions and the Soudal technical
datasheet for suitability in your specific application.

3. Is Soudabond Foam Adhesive suitable for bonding insulation boards directly to masonry?

Yes, one of the most common uses of Soudabond Foam Adhesive Gun Grade is
bonding insulation boards to brick, blockwork or concrete in internal drylining
or external insulation systems (where approved by the system). Ensure:

  • The substrate is sound, clean and adequately prepared.
  • The board type is compatible (e.g. EPS, XPS, PIR, PU – check manufacturer data).
  • The bead pattern, coverage and fixing method comply with the system specification.

4. How long do I have to position the boards once the foam adhesive is applied?

Soudabond has a limited open time after application, typically a few minutes,
depending on temperature, humidity and substrate. Boards should be offered up
and pressed into place immediately after applying the beads so the adhesive is
still tacky. Once the foam starts to skin, bonding performance will be reduced.
Always follow the working/open time guidelines on the can or datasheet.

5. Do I still need mechanical fixings when using Soudabond Foam Adhesive?

This depends on the system design, board type and Building Regulations. In many
insulation and drylining systems, foam adhesive is used in conjunction with:

  • Mechanical fixings (insulation anchors, screws, plugs).
  • Additional sealants or tapes at joints and perimeters.

Always follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions for the specific
board or insulation system you are using. Do not rely solely on the adhesive in
applications where mechanical fixing is required by the design.

6. Common Uses & How to Use Soudal Soudabond Foam Adhesive Gun Grade

Common Uses:

  • Bonding plasterboard to masonry and blockwork in drylining projects.
  • Fixing EPS/XPS/PIR insulation boards to solid walls and between studs.
  • Attaching foam‑backed renovation boards to internal walls and ceilings.
  • Securing window and door reveal insulation panels.
  • General panel and board bonding in refurbishment and fit‑out work.

How to Use – Step‑by‑Step:

  1. Read the product label, technical datasheet and SDS before starting.
  2. Prepare the substrate: ensure surfaces are sound, clean and dry; remove dust and loose material.
  3. Shake the can thoroughly and fix it onto a compatible PU foam gun.
  4. Adjust the gun flow as needed and apply continuous beads of adhesive to the back of the board (perimeter + centre lines).
  5. Offer the board to the substrate within the open time, press firmly and adjust to line and level.
  6. Use temporary props or spacers if required until the adhesive has developed sufficient strength.
  7. Allow the adhesive to cure fully before applying finishes, additional layers or heavy loads.
  8. Cut away any excess cured foam and finish in accordance with the board or system manufacturer’s guidance.
