Everflex Premium 500 Bath & Sanitary Silicone

Everflex Premium 500 Bath & Sanitary Silicone is a highโ€‘quality,
high modulus acetoxy cure silicone sealant with added fungicide, specially formulated for
bathrooms, kitchens and sanitary areas. It provides a permanently flexible,
waterproof and mouldโ€‘resistant seal
around baths, showers, sinks, toilets, worktops and tiled areas.

Typical Applications

  • Around baths & showers: sealing junctions between baths, shower trays, walls and tiles.
  • Sanitaryware: sealing around basins, toilets, urinals, bidets and splashbacks.
  • Kitchens: perimeter sealing of worktops, sinks, upstands and tiled areas.
  • General wet areas: joints in washrooms, changing rooms and utility rooms.
  • Glazing & general: sealing glass, anodised aluminium and many nonโ€‘porous joints
where an acetoxy silicone is suitable.

Surface Compatibility

Suitable for sealing on most nonโ€‘porous substrates, including:

  • Ceramic tiles
  • Glazed surfaces and glass
  • Enamel and porcelain
  • Stainless steel and many other metals (check for compatibility on sensitive metals)
  • uPVC and many rigid plastics
  • Laminates and wellโ€‘bonded paint finishes

Do not use on:

  • Bituminous or tarโ€‘based substrates
  • Highly porous surfaces (e.g. bare plaster, concrete, stone) without a suitable primer
  • Natural stone (risk of staining โ€“ use a neutral cure stone silicone instead)
  • Areas that will be overpainted โ€“ silicone is generally not overpaintable

Application Instructions

  1. Preparation
    • Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry and free from dust, grease, old sealant, loose material and soap scum.
    • Remove all old silicone with a suitable remover and clean thoroughly before resealing.
    • Mask adjacent areas with lowโ€‘tack tape if a very neat joint line is required.
  2. Cartridge setup
    • Cut the cartridge nozzle at a 45ยฐ angle to the required bead size.
    • Pierce the inner foil seal, fit nozzle, and place the cartridge into a skeleton or powered gun.
  3. Application
    • Apply the silicone in a continuous, even bead to the joint.
    • Ensure the bead makes full contact with both sides of the joint to avoid voids.
  4. Tooling / finishing
    • Within a few minutes of application, tool the sealant using a jointing tool or gloved finger
lightly wetted with clean soapy water.
    • Remove masking tape immediately after tooling to avoid tearing the skin.
  5. Curing & use
    • Allow to cure fully before exposing to standing water โ€“ typically at least 24 hours
(longer for deep or wide joints; see datasheet).
    • Full cure rate is typically around 2โ€“3 mm per 24 hours, depending on temperature and humidity.

Technical Overview

Typical values โ€“ always refer to the official Everbuild / Everflex technical datasheet for exact, upโ€‘toโ€‘date data.

  • Brand: Everflex (Everbuild)
  • Product: Premium 500 Bath & Sanitary Silicone
  • Chemistry: High modulus acetoxy cure silicone sealant
  • Mould resistance: Contains antiโ€‘fungal additive for sanitary applications
  • Movement capability: Typically up to ยฑ20% (ISO classification โ€“ see datasheet)
  • Skin formation: Approx. 10โ€“20 minutes at 23ย ยฐC and 50% RH
  • Cure rate: Approx. 2โ€“3 mm per 24 hours (dependent on joint depth, temp & humidity)
  • Application temperature: Approx. +5ย ยฐC to +40ย ยฐC
  • Service temperature: Approx. โ€‘40ย ยฐC to +150ย ยฐC once fully cured
  • Colours: Typically available in White, Clear and other sanitary colours (e.g. Ivory;
    check specific SKU).
  • Packaging: Standard cartridge (approx. 295โ€“300 ml) โ€“ check label.
  • Standards: Conforms to relevant ISO / EN classifications for sanitary silicones
    (e.g. ISO 11600 F&G 20HM โ€“ verify on datasheet).
  • Storage: Store upright in a cool, dry place; protect from frost and direct heat.
  • Shelf life: Typically 12 months from date of manufacture (unopened; see cartridge for exact date).

Cleaning & Limitations

  • Cleaning tools & spills:
    • Clean uncured sealant from tools and surfaces with white spirit or proprietary wipes (e.g. Everbuild Wonder Wipes).
    • Once cured, silicone can generally only be removed mechanically or with a specialist silicone remover.
  • Overpainting:
    • Not overpaintable. If a paintable joint is required, use a paintable acrylic sealant
in conjunction with, or instead of, silicone in nonโ€‘wet areas.
  • Ventilation:
    • As an acetoxy (acetic acid) cure silicone, it releases a vinegarโ€‘like odour while curing.
Use in wellโ€‘ventilated areas until fully cured.

Frequently Asked Questions โ€“ Everflex Premium 500 Bath & Sanitary Silicone

1. Is this sealant mould resistant?

Yes. Everflex Premium 500 contains a powerful fungicide specifically designed to help
resist mould and mildew growth in bathroom and kitchen environments.

2. Can I paint over Everflex 500?

No. Like most silicones, Everflex Premium 500 is not overpaintable. If you need a paintable joint,
use a paintable acrylic sealant in nonโ€‘wet areas or design the joint so the silicone remains unseen.

3. How long before I can use the shower or bath?

Allow a minimum of 24 hours curing before exposing the seal to running or standing water
(longer in cold or very humid conditions). For deep joints, allow more time according to the cure rate
given in the datasheet.

4. What surfaces can I apply this silicone to?

It is suitable for most nonโ€‘porous surfaces such as ceramics, glazed tiles, enamel,
glass, uPVC and metals
. Avoid porous or bituminous substrates unless correctly primed
and approved by the manufacturer.

5. Why is there a vinegar smell during application?

Everflex Premium 500 is an acetoxy cure silicone, which releases small amounts of
acetic acid (vinegarโ€‘like smell) as it cures. This will dissipate as the sealant cures.
Ensure adequate ventilation during and after application.

6. How do I remove old or failed silicone before resealing?

Carefully:

  • Cut along both sides of the existing bead with a sharp knife or sealant remover tool,
  • Peel away the bulk of the sealant,
  • Use a silicone remover gel (if required) and scrape residues away,
  • Clean with an appropriate cleaner, allow to dry fully, then apply fresh Everflex 500.
